I loving memory of
To some people studying military history is a relaxing hobby; to Ken Boice it's a lifestyle. For over thirty years, Ken has devoted his career to the understanding of military history. An intense desire to realize ancient Militaria acted as the catalyst for Ken to actually build replicas of those historical times. Ken's knowledge is not limited to that of a booked-learned theorist, but incorporates a working man's tactile understanding of "how things work". |

Ken began reenacting in the mid 70's. He has participated in time periods ranging from the 16th Century colonization of North America to the war in Vietnam. In each period, Ken has done extensive research. As his interests in an era developed, Ken would search for items that were simply not available on the market, and so, would set about to make them himself. He has constructed complete uniforms and accoutrements for all of the time periods he reenacts. As Ken's handiwork became more public, friends would request additional pieces and the word spread. Ken has constructed items for other reenactors as well as museums, commercial films, and private collectors. Here's a tiny sampling of some of Ken's creations resulting from his personal need for higher quality, more authentic and historically accurate pieces of history.
Ken Boice is a very capable blacksmith. His forge has constructed swords for private clients and museums. He has the resources and the hands-on knowledge to reproduce uniform buttons and small, intricate parts using the lost "wax process". Of course, his steel-working expertise is mandatory in the reproduction of larger cannon items like a firing seat, a toolbox or wooden wheels and shafts. Ken's extreme attention to the details has earned him a very prestigious reputation. His WWII K-ration reproduction was written up in The French Militaria Magazine (issue #14, 1995) as being so close to the original that it might be bought as such! Perhaps that is why these fine K-ration reproductions were the choice of Steven Spielberg's prop crew for the Oscar winning film "Saving Private Ryan". As a matter of fact, Ken has supplied numerous films with authentic reproductions including matchlock muskets for "The Black Robe" and his famous WWI Emergency rations for the movie "The Basket". After 30 years, Ken has survived the test of time. Still, it is Ken's unaffected love of history that drives him to maintain the highest possible quality for his products and services. And it is that love which can be seen and touched with every item Historic Reproductions creates. |
